Chance’s family had owned dogs their entire lives, so hiring a professional dog trainer was never something they imagined needing.
That changed after adopting Chance.
His behavior quickly became overwhelming, and the family realized this was far beyond the kind of obedience challenges they could solve on their own. Chance’s lack of structure and unsafe behaviors created constant stress, and the situation became serious enough that his owner publicly asked for help in desperation.
The biggest concern was safety.
Chance needed to become reliably obedient, not simply for convenience, but to protect him. His owner was especially concerned about the possibility of escape and the inability to control him in dangerous situations.
At the same time, life circumstances made traditional owner-led training unrealistic. With a three-year-old daughter at home and both adults working shift schedules, the family knew they could not dedicate the level of time and consistency Chance seemed to require.
The heartbreaking reality was that without meaningful intervention, keeping Chance in the home may not have been possible.
After being referred to Sean Rivera by a trusted friend at a highly respected veterinary hospital in Chester County, the family reached out to Absolute Canine for help.
Sean agreed to take on what was clearly a difficult case.
Given the family’s circumstances and Chance’s needs, the solution was an immersive board-and-train style program where Chance lived with Sean while receiving focused daily training.
The process began with foundational obedience work on leash, building structure, communication, and behavioral expectations. Once Chance demonstrated progress, training advanced into more complex off-leash obedience work.
That advanced control was especially important because the family’s goal was not simply improved manners, but confidence that Chance could be safely controlled in the event of an emergency or escape situation.
Sean maintained communication throughout the process, regularly updating the family on Chance’s progress.
Importantly, Sean refused to rush the outcome.
Despite Chance being one of the more difficult dogs he had worked with, Sean remained committed to seeing the process through and insisted Chance would not return home until he was fully ready.
The training was not simply about obedience commands.
It was about helping Chance understand structure, consistency, and the human-dog bond in a way that created real behavioral change.
When Chance’s family arrived to bring him home, the transformation was dramatic.
Sean demonstrated Chance’s obedience both on and off leash, and the difference was so significant that his owner described the moment as almost unbelievable.
For the first time, Chance looked confident, focused, and genuinely happy.
More importantly, the changes carried into real life.
Since returning home, Chance has not escaped. He actively enjoys practicing the skills he learned, and what was once a stressful household dynamic became something completely different.
Instead of constantly managing chaos or worrying about safety, the family can now genuinely enjoy life with their dog.
The relationship with Absolute Canine also continued beyond the initial training program, with follow-up visits to reinforce skills and maintain progress.
For Chance’s owner, the biggest takeaway was not simply obedience.
It was the belief that Sean gave Chance an opportunity that others may not have. Where a less patient trainer may have given up or used the wrong methods, Sean remained committed, creating a better and safer future for both Chance and his family.
